Férias do pessoal, na estrada e novidades...

Towards the end of the 80s many of us had been scootering for the best part of a decade and the scene for some was running out of steam. It seemed as if our youth was over and we would probably go off and settle down. Then suddenly House music arrived and arguably the biggest ‘youth cult’ of all time exploded into British culture. Many scooterists had their heads turned, mothballed or sold their scooters, bought some baggy leggings, a hooded top and a pair of Wallabies and went Raving!

The owner of this scooter, Howard Carney, was one of those and the place he washed up was The Haçienda. He discovered the famous Wednesday night called Hot, which had started in 1988, piloted by DJs Mike Pickering and Jon Da Silva. It was like a mini-midweek Ibiza, with a swimming pool next to the dance floor, and airhorns, thunderstorms and pianos filling the air. There began Howard’s love affair with all things Acieed and House music in general. He got so into this scene he ended up as a House DJ himself playing nights like Konspiracy, PSV and even downstairs at the Haçienda itself, along with a slot on the pirate station Sunset with 808 State.

Reconheço-me neste pedaço de história pessoal, incluida na última edição da Scootering, uma autêntica biblia para aficionados scooteristas. De volta, aqui a garagem, aproveitamos para pedir desculpa por tão pouco movimento por nestes últimos meses. Pessoalmente estive afastado do computador e da net, muitos festivais e km feitos de norte a sul do país para compromissos profissionais. E depois umas férias balearicas, onde deu para tirar o gosto ao punho, numa scooter automática a estrear a Piaggio Liberty 125, que me acompanhou numas aventuras em Formentera. Todo-o-terreno posso dizer seguramente...

De regresso a casa e novamente de volta a estrada, desta vez com a velha companheira Sprint, lá fomos ao 2º ScooterPT Camping, ali pros lados de Leiria. Uma espécie de rally/meeting apenas para scooterboys e scootergirls com alguma rodagem...em levantamento de copos! Houve festa no bar com muito ska e ainda uma sessão jam onde o Marcelo, o Saraiva e o Paulo Martins se destacaram nos dotes vocais e artisticos. Desafinados?... Não! Digamos que...desalinhados!
